1. Nouns
are used to name people, animals,
places, things, and ideas.

Gender.
In Spanish every noun has a
gender (masculine or feminine) and number
(singular or plural).
3. Masculine (m)
nouns usually end in
–o
.
Feminine (f)
nouns usually end in
a
.

4. Nouns
used for gender usually respect
that gender.
the boy - el niño (m)
the girl - la niña (f)
5. Conosants
. When a masculine noun
ends in one of the following conosants

(-d, -l, -n, -r, -s,

-z)

to make it feminine.

keep the same form
whether masculine or feminine. The gender
is identified by the article.

7. Some nouns
are always masculine or
always feminine regardless of the gender
they identify.
the person - la persona
the victim - la víctima
the baby - el bebé
the member - el miembro

-ión, -dad, -tad,

-tud
are usually feminine.

Some nouns
ending in

are feminine.
the hand - la mano (f)

Some nouns ending in

are
masculine.

10. Some nouns
ending in

are
masculine because they are
abbreviations of feminine words.
